The non-Markovian effect from the environment on the free and control dynamics of open quantum system has been widely discussed in research fields ranging from atomic, molecular and optical physics to condensed matter physics and to quantum information science. Based on the review over the standard research approaches, such as master equation and bang-bang control, we will introduce an alternative approach, a stochastic Schrödinger equation termed as quantum-state-diffusion (QSD) equation, which serves as a dynamical equation for reduced systems and also a tool for nonperturbative control. It is shown that in principle, QSD equation describes the non-Markovian decoherence process without any approximation and on certain conditions, it can be used to derive an exact master equation.
